What is the difference between Global Studies and Forensic Science Academy?

Global Studies Magnet Academy
This academically rigorous program focuses on environmental stewardship. Through an interdisciplinary approach, students will learn about issues affecting our environment, and they will use critical thinking skills to create solutions for more effective and efficient ways to “Go Green”.

The Global Academy provides students with a view of their role in the big picture. At the same time, it develops a student’s need to become emotionally and cognitively aware of how their actions impact the world around them. By taking part in this academy, we are providing the foundation for the development of global citizens and the global leaders of tomorrow.

Forensic Science Magnet Academy
This is a case based program that incorporates the techniques involved in Crime Scene Investigation in classrooms throughout the school year. Students in all grade levels will learn many forensic techniques such as: fiber identification, fingerprint analysis, hair analysis, DNA manipulation, chemical identification techniques, dentition, bone structure, and many more.

Since Forensic Science is a discipline that requires critical thinking skills, we have paired it with the Fine Arts in order to develop a well rounded child. It is suggested that students take at least one fine arts elective while participating the program. They can select from art, drama, band, orchestra, and dance.

Are there any special required documents for applying to your school?

Students must submit a district application, www.yourchoicemiami.org. You must select one of the magnet programs listed for Arvida Middle School as one of their choices.
